This workshop will equip participants with the basic tools to increase student engagement through STEM investigations that integrate literacy, math, and the arts using community resources and beyond. Learn how to help students build a web of understanding and keep them eager for more as they learn that they can make a difference. Best of all, learn simple strategies to implement STEM programing without having to be content area expert!

Participants will learn:
-critical elements for student engagement and how to build them into their programs;
-simple strategies to increase student learning without having to be a content expert; and
-where to find resources to bring real-world, high-interest learning to their programs.

Our presenter is Beth Heidemann. She was a classroom teacher for 25 years during which time she achieved National Board Certification and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (PAEMST). During the PAEMST recognition events she was challenged to have an even broader impact so she created Go2Science, an online resource for educators that allows them to bring real-world science research adventures to their students. Her work has been focused on teaching across the curriculum through the lens of science. Since launching Go2Science her work has focused not only on content creation but also working with students and practitioners across the country, usually virtually.
