The Michigan AfterSchool Association invites you to submit a presentation proposal for consideration for the Michigan AfterSchool Association (MAA) Collaborative Summer Summit. The Summer Summit is being held at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, East Lansing, MI on Friday, May 9, 2014. It is anticipated that 300-350 after-school administrators and practitioners will attend the conference.
The MAA Collaborative Summer Summit is a professional development event for the Michigan out-of-school time community, including teachers, on-site staff, administrators, child care providers, and parents. The MAA Collaborative Summer Summit is sponsored by the Michigan AfterSchool Association and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) in collaboration with state and local agencies, associations, and organizations.
MDE and MAA are excited to announce that this year’s conference theme is “Innovation in AfterSchool.” This theme will allow presenters to introduce their topics, such as project based learning, technology and social media, fine arts, scientific experiments, outdoor activities and more, with the opportunity to have attendees think outside the box and look at how after-school can transform student outcomes. The goal of the Summer Summit is to provide participants with hands-on, engaging, and innovative programming and activity ideas, networking opportunities, and affirmation of the importance of establishing rich, supportive environments and high quality services for youth and their families during the summer months. Participants have the opportunity to earn “State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs).
The MAA Board is working to adjust the events schedule. Therefore, workshop sessions may last either 1 hour or 1.25 hours in length; room capacities typically range from 40-60. Presenters are asked to indicate their room set-up preference; every effort will be made to accommodate set-up requests. Room set-up options are 1) theater style (chairs only for participants); 2) classroom style (rectangular tables with chairs, participants ‘face forward’); and 3) rounds (round tables with chairs semi or full-circle). Attendees preregister for workshops; an accurate count of participants for individual sessions will be available in early-May.
A maximum of two (2) presenters per proposal are offered the following:
