What Lies Beneath

The Michigan AfterSchool Association invites you to submit a presentation proposal for consideration for the Michigan AfterSchool Association (MAA) Fall Conference, September 19-20, 2021 in Traverse City, MI at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.

It is anticipated that over 500 out-of-school time administrators and practitioners will attend the conference.

The MAA Fall Conference is a professional development event for the Michigan expanded learning community, including teachers, on-site staff, administrators, child care providers, and parents.

MAA is excited to announce that this year’s conference theme is What Lies Beneath.

This  conference will highlight and address ways to pull out resources that will be beneficial to support programs and communities,  and by bringing in people that are knowledgeable in the field and support our efforts as we navigate and address ways to bring us back to some normalcy within our communities in our field.

The impact of Covid 19 on all students is significant. As districts, communities and families resume academic and enrichment instruction in the upcoming school year, they will not only need to address the significant social and emotional toll that the crisis has taken on children, but also widespread unfinished learning and learning losses sustained in the wake of school closures. Addressing Mental Health and Social-Emotional Wellness in the COVID-19 Crisis—we will need to  provide a collection of resources and guidance for creating learning environments that are physically and psychologically safe for students, communities, families  and staff. This conference will provide and promote a proactive and inclusive approach to communication, outreach, and intervention, as well as shared ownership of the mental health and social and emotional well-being of all students in expanded learning and out-of-school time.

Participants have the opportunity to earn CEU’s and “State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs).

Presenters may submit proposals for 1.5 to 2.0 hour sessions for Sunday, Monday, or either.  We welcome your proposals for creating an inclusive, learner-centered event that will focus on what challenges lie ahead in this post Covid world. Submissions for sessions are due by June 30, 2021. Presenters will receive notification of acceptance by July 15, 2021.

Important: Please refrain from submitting a session proposal that is geared toward product promotion. Sessions should remain educational in nature while product sales are to remain in vendor areas.
