Setting Expectations: Creating an Environment for Students to Thrive

Deficit mindsets pervade language and perspectives throughout education. Shifting to a strength-based mindset takes more than a graphic organizer and an hour of professional development, (except this hour, this hour will). By focusing on what is good, while creating clear behavior expectations, we can support each other and our students to achieve success. Understanding strengths and leading with and teaching through them will instill a sense of value in ourselves and our students. This session will address personal and professional growth opportunities while providing specific skills to utilize in the classroom to create a learning environment where everyone thrives. Attendees will access activities to take directly to your team and students to discover what is great about YOU (and them)! The presenters will share a model of success to impact the school-wide culture mindset moving from surviving to thriving. understand their strengths and the strengths of others and apply these strengths to a model of behavior expectation and support, while practicing skills for classroom connection.
