Collaboration between the Afterschool Alliance and the National AfterSchool Association (NAA)

We are excited to announce a groundbreaking collaboration between the Afterschool Alliance and the National AfterSchool Association (NAA), aimed at fortifying the workforce within the afterschool and summer programming sectors. This strategic partnership comes at a critical juncture as programs nationwide grapple with staffing shortages exacerbated by the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Afterschool Alliance, known for its advocacy on behalf of afterschool and summer enrichment programs, joins forces with NAA, which has spearheaded professional development in out-of-school time (OST) settings for over three decades. Together, they are set to address the pressing need for a skilled and stable workforce to ensure increased access to quality programming for children and youth.

“Skilled and knowledgeable program staff are critical to desired youth outcomes,” shared Gina Warner, CEO of NAA. “Our collaboration represents a firm dedication to quality afterschool programming by recognizing OST professionals as essential contributors to young people’s educational and social-emotional development.”

The partnership, which officially began in March 2024, marks a milestone in collaborative efforts to support OST professionals nationwide. Initial activities include NAA’s recent hosting of the third annual Workforce Summit and the circulation of draft national OST Job Quality Standards, which will be released on June 25, 2024. Additionally, a new searchable online database featuring innovative strategies to tackle workforce challenges has been launched, underscoring the alliance’s commitment to driving meaningful change.

Jodi Grant, Executive Director of the Afterschool Alliance, emphasizes, “By joining forces, we expect to drive change that will make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth across the country. We are very pleased to coordinate with NAA on this badly needed initiative that will enhance the stability of the afterschool and summer workforce.”

As both organizations look ahead, we invite stakeholders to learn more about our joint efforts, which promises to elevate standards and opportunities within the afterschool sector. Stay tuned as we continue to champion afterschool excellence and empower youth, families, and communities through enriching afterschool and summer programs nationwide. Together, we are building a brighter future for our next generation.
