Leveling Up for the Next Generation

The Michigan AfterSchool Association invites you to submit a presentation proposal for consideration for the Michigan AfterSchool Association (MAA) Fall Conference, October 26 & 27, 2023 in Southfield, MI at The Westin Southfield Detroit.

It is anticipated that over 400 out-of-school time administrators and practitioners will attend the conference.

The MAA Fall Conference is a professional development event for the Michigan expanded learning community, including teachers, on-site staff, administrators, child care providers, and parents.

MAA is excited to announce that this year’s conference theme is Leveling Up for the Next Generation.

The past few years have created unique opportunities and challenges for communities, families and
children. In order to help kids and their families smoothly and powerfully navigate these turbulent
times, afterschool professionals must find ways to tap into new opportunities to develop their skills and
measure their impact, all while maintaining their own self-care. This year’s conference features content
that helps us build the personal support, professional expertise, and meaningful partnerships as we
prepare to LEVEL UP FOR THE NEXT GENERATION!

Join us October 26 & 27 to:

  • Identify Strategies by engaging in strategic conversations with state and community leaders from across the state to identify solutions that advance the future of children in programs during before, afterschool, expanded learning and early childhood.
  • Share Stories to inspire each other: Participants will share stories and seek advice with other participants who represent a diverse range of perspectives in the field.  In interactive sessions with passionate speakers, you’ll encounter illuminating perspectives to inform policy and practice in your communities.
  • Advance Racial Equity: Engage in discussions designed to educate, enlighten, and empower action to foster racially equitable systems and dismantle systemic racism.
  • Explore the importance of the partnership between schools and expanded learning centers to create a seamless learning experience and provide equitable learning opportunities.
  • Take strides to understand the importance that early childhood education plays when transitioning into a school or expanded learning center.

Participants have the opportunity to earn CEU’s and “State Continuing Education Clock Hours” (SCECHs).

Presenters may submit proposals for 90 minute sessions for Friday, October 27.  We welcome your proposals for creating an inclusive, learner-centered event that will focus on leveling up for our next generation. Submissions for sessions are due by August 11, 2023. Presenters will receive notification of acceptance by August 18, 2023.
